About This Treatment

What is a Moroccan bath (Hammam) in Dubai?

A Moroccan bath — known as Hammam or Hammam Maghrabi — is one of the oldest wellness rituals in the world. Rooted in North African and Islamic tradition, the hammam was historically a sacred community space for purification and gathering. Today at IK Spa in Business Bay, it is offered as a private, immersive multi-step ritual for skin transformation and deep physical renewal.

Unlike a standard body scrub or massage, the Moroccan bath follows a precise sequence: steam to open the pores, black Beldi soap to draw out impurities, kessa glove exfoliation to lift dead skin, ghassoul clay mineral mask, and a warm argan oil finish. Each step builds on the last. The result is skin that feels genuinely different — not just cleaned, but renewed at a cellular level.

The treatment is also a body scrub dubai — the kessa exfoliation removes weeks of accumulated dead skin, improving texture, circulation and product absorption for weeks following the session.

Authentic Moroccan products
Savon Beldi
Traditional black olive oil soap from Morocco — softens the skin and draws out impurities before the scrub
Kessa Glove
Woven exfoliation mitt used in firm circular motions — removes dead skin, stimulates circulation and resurfaces
Ghassoul Clay
Mineral-rich volcanic clay from the Atlas Mountains — draws toxins from pores and remineralises the skin
Argan Oil
Moroccan liquid gold applied as the finishing seal — locks in moisture and leaves skin soft, luminous and nourished

"The hammam does not simply clean the body — it renews it. There is no other treatment that produces quite this feeling of having shed the past week entirely."

At IK Spa, Business Bay
All sessions are conducted in private treatment rooms on a warm marble-effect table. We use only authentic Moroccan products sourced from North Africa — Savon Beldi, ghassoul clay and cold-pressed argan oil. No synthetic scrubs or shortcuts. The full ritual takes 60–90 minutes; packages including massage extend to 120 minutes.

The Moroccan Hammam Ritual — Five Steps

The five steps of the Moroccan bath

Steam
Opening Steam

Warm steam is applied to the body to open pores and soften the skin's surface. This prepares the tissue for maximum absorption of the black soap and makes the subsequent exfoliation significantly more effective.

10–15 min
Beldi Soap
Black Soap Application

Savon Beldi — traditional Moroccan black olive oil soap — is applied generously to the entire body. It is left to work for 10–15 minutes in the warm steam environment, drawing impurities and sebum to the skin's surface.

10–15 min
Kessa Scrub
Kessa Exfoliation

The kessa glove is used in firm circular strokes across the entire body. Dead skin cells — softened by steam and loosened by the black soap — are lifted away in visible rolls. This is the transformative heart of the hammam.

15–20 min
Ghassoul
Clay Mineral Mask

Ghassoul clay from the Atlas Mountains is applied to the freshly exfoliated skin. The mineral-rich clay draws residual toxins from open pores and delivers magnesium, silica and calcium directly into the skin. Rinsed with warm water.

10 min
Argan Oil
Argan Oil Finish

Cold-pressed Moroccan argan oil is worked into the freshly revealed skin as the final step. The newly exfoliated surface absorbs the oil at a depth impossible before the ritual. Skin is sealed, nourished and luminous.

Moroccan Bath Benefits

What the Moroccan bath does

01

Deep Skin Cleansing

The combination of steam, black soap and kessa exfoliation removes dead skin at a depth no shower or standard scrub can reach — unclogging pores, removing impurities and resurfacing the skin completely.

02

Skin Renewal & Softness

After a Moroccan bath, clients consistently report skin that feels dramatically softer, smoother and more luminous. The effect lasts for weeks — the skin genuinely behaves differently after the dead layer is properly removed.

03

Improved Circulation

Steam raises core temperature, dilating blood vessels and increasing circulation throughout the body. The kessa scrub further stimulates surface blood flow, producing that characteristic post-hammam warmth and energy.

04

Detoxification

Steam opens the skin's pores and initiates sweating, while the black soap and ghassoul clay actively draw toxins out. The lymphatic system is also stimulated — supporting the body's natural waste-clearing mechanisms.

05

Muscle Relief

The sustained warmth of the steam environment relaxes muscle tissue throughout the session. Combined with the massage option in our Royal package, this produces the deepest physical release of any treatment we offer.

06

Mental Reset

The meditative, unhurried nature of the hammam ritual — especially in a private room — produces a mental state of rare quietness. Clients describe leaving the session feeling genuinely lighter, not just physically but emotionally.

FAQ

Common questions

Every question deserves a considered answer.

Moroccan bath prices in Dubai typically range from AED 200–500 for a standard session. At IK Spa in Business Bay, our Classic Moroccan bath starts from AED 299 for 60 minutes, our Royal Hammam is AED 449 (90 min), and our Royal + Massage package is AED 599 (120 min). All prices include authentic Moroccan products and are VAT inclusive.
A Moroccan bath — also known as Hammam or Hammam Maghrabi — is a traditional North African cleansing ritual. It involves five steps: steam to open pores, Beldi black soap application, kessa glove exfoliation to remove dead skin, ghassoul clay mineral mask, and an argan oil finishing seal. The full ritual takes 60–90 minutes and leaves the skin transformed in a way no other treatment can replicate.
Both are hammam traditions but differ in technique and products. The Moroccan bath uses black Beldi soap and a kessa glove for exfoliation, finished with ghassoul clay and argan oil. The Turkish hammam typically involves more vigorous scrubbing with a loofa on a marble slab, with less emphasis on the oil ritual. At IK Spa, we follow the Moroccan tradition with private rooms and authentic North African products.

Yes. Our Royal Moroccan Bath + Massage package (120 min, AED 599 per person) is our most popular couples option — conducted in adjacent private rooms, timed to start and finish together. Each person receives their own therapist and the full ritual. Call 050 822 5905 and mention a couples booking.
Most clients benefit from a Moroccan bath every 2–4 weeks. The skin's natural cell turnover cycle is approximately 28 days, so a monthly hammam aligns well with this. For intensive skin renewal or detoxification goals, some clients visit fortnightly. Once a week is possible but not necessary for most people — the effects last noticeably longer than a standard massage or scrub.

Emerge renewed.
